Kuala Lumpur, Oct 7, 2025 – Following Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo’s call at the Smart Cities Expo Kuala Lumpur to translate Malaysia’s AI Nation vision into practice, Coursera, Inc. (NYSE: COUR), a leading global online learning platform, announced new measures to strengthen Malaysia’s reskilling agenda and workforce readiness.
The minister emphasized that Malaysia’s future as an AI Nation requires practical action — ensuring industries, communities, and public services are equipped with the skills to thrive in the digital economy. In support of this goal, Coursera is introducing localized pricing to make high-quality online learning up to 40% more affordable for Malaysian learners, and launching Skill Tracks, structured role-based learning paths that link job roles directly to critical digital skills.
With over 600,000 Malaysian jobs projected to be impacted by artificial intelligence (AI), digitalisation, and the green economy in the next three to five years, the initiatives are designed to help close national skills gaps in line with the National 4IR Policy, Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint, and the 13th Malaysia Plan.
Interactive previews for informed course selection
Alongside localized pricing, Coursera’s new course preview experience allows learners to explore content before committing, with access to the first module across nearly every course – covering graded assignments, videos, and AI-powered support. Malaysian learners will also continue to have free access to Community Impact Courses that address urgent social needs, with financial aid available for additional assistance.
“As one of our fastest-growing and most engaged learner markets across Asia Pacific, Malaysia is at the heart of our mission,” said Greg Hart, CEO of Coursera. “The new course preview experience makes learning more engaging from day one, offering learners a richer way to explore content, while our localized pricing ensures it’s more accessible nationwide.”
With the new pricing, learners in Malaysia can now access*:
-
Professional Certificates and Specializations starting at $29/month (up to 40% less expensive)
-
Coursera Plus (Monthly) subscription at $35 (40% less expensive)
-
Coursera Plus (Annual) subscription at $239 (40% less expensive)
New role-based Skill Tracks help organizations close skills gaps faster
Coursera also announced Skill Tracks, a structured, role-based learning path in Software and Product, IT, Data, and Generative AI. Powered by Coursera’s Career Graph, which uses millions of labor market data points, third-party competency frameworks, and a proprietary skills taxonomy, Skill Tracks map the relationships between jobs, skills, and learning content so teams can build the right capabilities at the right time.
The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 finds that 63% of Malaysian employers see skill gaps as the biggest barrier to business transformation, underscoring the need for practical, data-informed upskilling. Skill Tracks blends expert content, hands-on practice, and verification so employees can apply new skills immediately and drive measurable outcomes faster.
Key features of Coursera Skill Tracks include:
-
Tailored learning experience – In addition to world-class content from industry leaders and universities like Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Yale, and Stanford, learning leaders can customize Skill Tracks with their own content, ensuring alignment with their organizations’ tools, workflows, and business priorities.
-
Rigorous and verifiable credentials – Learners make progress toward credentials based on real-world assessments.
-
Real-time insights and alignment to business goals – Regular tracking of learning progress and content updates ensure Skill Tracks stay current with market demands, align with changing skill requirements, and connect skill acquisition with business performance and growth.
In the upcoming months, Coursera will launch more Skill Tracks and improved features, including skill diagnostics to ensure learners begin at the appropriate level and verified skill paths with performance-based evaluations to yield credentials that demonstrate practical, job-ready expertise.
“Companies are deploying new technology faster than their people can keep pace, and they need learning solutions that are adaptive and personalized,” said Greg Hart, CEO of Coursera. “Coursera Skill Tracks deliver a learning experience built around occupations and job tasks, and it’s a major step towards helping learners master the right skills to grow their careers. By blending technical skills with institutional expertise, hands-on practice, and skill verification, Skill Tracks ensure training is relevant and immediately applicable.”
