DJI Breaks Through the Limits of Fixed Aperture with Osmo Action 6 — DJI’s First Action Camera with Variable Aperture

Kuala Lumpur, 20 November 2025 — DJI, the global leader in civilian drones and creative camera technology, unveils the Osmo Action 6, an all-in-one action camera introducing industry-first features, including a variable aperture, a new 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor and enhanced low-light performance.

As part of its real-world tests, the Osmo Action 6 was recently put through diverse scenarios across Hong Kong — from theme parks to great outdoors, from night cityscapes to watersports — showcasing its adaptability across bright daylight, low-light, motion-heavy and water-based environments.

DJI’s first variable aperture action camera

The Osmo Action 6 is DJI’s first action camera with a variable aperture (f/2.0–f/4.0), enabling superior low-light performance and creative exposure control. Paired with DJI’s custom 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor and 2.4 μm fusion large pixels, image quality receives a major leap in clarity and dynamic range.

In Hong Kong, creators tested the aperture across dynamic lighting — from the vibrant streets and thrilling island adventures to the panoramic viewpoints along Ngong Ping 360 — demonstrating how quickly the camera adapts to changing conditions.

The Osmo Action 6 introduces a new adjustable-aperture design, offering multiple aperture modes up to f/2.0 to allow more light and deliver better low-light performance. In Auto mode, the camera automatically adapts its aperture range to different scenes, from night environments to bright landscapes. A new Starburst mode enhances point light sources, creating striking star-shaped highlights in city shots.

Optional accessories unlock even more creative control:

• Macro Lens: reduces minimum focus distance from 35 cm to 11 cm for crisp food, pet or detail shots

• FOV Boost Lens: expands the native 155° FOV to 182°¹ for highly immersive POV footage

New 1/1.1-inch square sensor offers flagship-level image quality

The Osmo Action 6’s new 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensor with 2.4 μm fused large pixels delivers up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range, supports 4K/120fps recording in 4:3 and delivers impressive clarity in extremely dark environments. With its larger sensor, wider aperture and improved noise reduction, SuperNight mode captures detailed 4K/60fps night footage. DJI’s 10-bit D-Log M further preserves highlight and shadow detail, with an on-screen preview for real-time monitoring.

In the bustling night scenes of Hong Kong — from the shimmering Victoria Harbour skyline to the glowing festive displays at Hong Kong WinterFest — SuperNight mode preserved shadow detail while maintaining vivid, accurate colours.

4K Custom Mode: shoot now, crop later

Powered by DJI’s custom-designed square sensor, the Osmo Action 6 debuts the new 4K Custom mode that allows users to shoot first and crop later for any aspect ratio, ideal for multi-platform content without repositioning the camera.

Smooth, super slow motion

The Osmo Action 6 supports native 4K/120fps slow motion and up to 32x Super Slow Motion playback at 1080p through intelligent frame interpolation. The camera also achieves a slowdown effect equivalent to 960fps when played back at 1080p/30fps, providing a cinematic effect for action footage.

With an IP68 waterproof rating, the Osmo Action 6 is waterproof up to 20 m (60 m with the case) and tracks underwater colours with a built-in colour temperature sensor and pressure gauge.

Designed for extreme environments, it operates at -20°C, offers up to 4 hours of battery life, fast-charges to 80% in 22 minutes², and includes 50GB of built-in storage. Gesture control and subject tracking also allow hands-free recording.

For creators, the variable aperture supports closer selfie videos, and the new Natural Wide FOV delivers broad, natural-looking footage with reduced distortion, ideal for travel and daily vlogs.
