Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), set up to accelerate the deployment of 5G network in Malaysia, has launched the nation’s largest 5G experience center, with Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) as the key partner, to raise awareness and promote the adoption of the fifth-generation wireless cellular technology.

Named as ‘My5G Portal’, the center has been set up by DNB with the support of Ericsson to provide an interactive and immersive environment for visitors to learn about, experience, and understand the impact of 5G technology on enterprises and consumers.

Ericsson’s presence demonstrates its commitment to building the 5G eco-system in Malaysia, as well as its technology leadership and innovation. The Center, nestled at the lobby of the TRX Exchange 106 tower where the DNB office is located, will serve as a learning hub for customers, partners, industry, academia, and government officials to understand the potential of 5G technology by showing the value of 5G products and services in action, through live demonstrations and technology showcases.

DNB’s Chief Strategy Officer Datuk Ahmad Zaki Zahid said that My5G Portal provides a hands-on experience to demystify 5G and promote an appreciation of the technology. “Starting with an overview of how 5G connectivity makes our vision of tomorrow possible today, you will then discover what goes into building a 5G network, thanks to our key partner, Ericsson. As part of its socio-economic contribution as DNB’s network equipment provider, Ericsson has shared its expertise and technology to assist us in creating an interactive and immersive environment”.

As the key partner, Ericsson has shared its global experience in setting up, designing and running Experience Centers, all of which will contribute to creating an impactful customer experience to the visitors.

The main zones in the center include:

  • 5G for Malaysia, showing the vision and purpose of DNB and the key capabilities of the DNB network;
  • Ericsson 5G Leadership, where the focus is on the Ericsson’s end-to-end 5G products and services that is powering Malaysia’s World Class 5G network; 
  • Enterprise and Industry Applications, where the focus is on enterprise opportunities and benefits for society; and
  • Consumer and Home Applications, that includes use cases such as immersive media, cloud gaming, smart home communications and 5G devices.

Some of the 5G use cases demonstrated at the center include; a hologram, connected ambulance, smart surveillance cameras (in partnership with Axis), mission critical communications, 5G for connected enterprises, 5G Education, Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and 5G Remote Driving. 

Ericsson has been in Malaysia since 1965 and is building Malaysia’s 5G network for Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). Ericsson is leveraging its global expertise and technology leadership to deliver a world-class network and user experience for Malaysia. 5G coverage in the county’s populated areas

is currently around 70.2 % and target to reach 80% by the end of the year.

Malaysia has already become a recognized global leader in 5G connectivity with reports stating that Malaysia has achieved outstanding results in implementing and delivering a great 5G experience for consumers as well as the 5G network delivering excellent speed and reliability, outperforming many industrialized nations.

In addition to delivering a world-class 5G network, Ericsson manufactures its state-of-the-art 5G radio equipment in Penang; hosts a Global Maintenance Center in Bukit Jelutong, one of the company’s largest in the world, and has a Regional Distribution Centre at KLIA’s Free Trade Zone.
