Xiaomi Unveils Xiaomi MIX Flip: Reaching The Peak of Flip Smartphones

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, September 27, 2024 – Xiaomi is proud to announce the arrival of the Xiaomi MIX Flip in Malaysia. The Xiaomi MIX Flip excels in performance, battery, and network functionality, meeting standards of non-foldable phones and breaking the stereotype of flip phones offering reduced overall capabilities. With its sizable external display and innovative interactivity, most daily operations can be performed smoothly on the external display without opening the device.

A highly functional flagship outer display

Outer display on flip devices have evolved from small to full display, but seamlessly using daily applications via the outer display required additional efforts. Xiaomi MIX Flip features a 4-inch All Around Liquid outer display with a quad-curved design, providing a smooth hand feel. The outer display interaction has been restructured, allowing it to function as a highly functional “compact phone” without opening the device.

Xiaomi MIX Flip’s outer display meets modern specifications: 1.5K resolution, 460PPI, 120Hz refresh rate, 3000 nits peak brightness, Original Color Pro, HDR support, and eye protection. These specifications stay consistent from inner to outer display to ensure a uniform experience.

Based on the new display form and popular daily scenarios, Xiaomi HyperOS completely reimagines outer display features, making it possible for the outer display to meet most daily usage needs. Xiaomi MIX Flip outer display inherits the comprehensive display gestures and notification/control center swipe-down interaction logic of everyday flagships, with almost no learning curve. It supports auto-rotation, is suitable for both left and right hands, and features a full-display keyboard nearly as wide as the inner display for comfortable typing.

Over 200 of the most popular applications run perfectly on the equivalent 3.5″, 16:9 main application area, covering communication, entertainment, health, reading, shopping, and learning apps. Thanks to the flexible framework of Xiaomi HyperOS, applications display without obstructions or cropping, offering a smooth experience. Innovative partition design allows widgets to display time, weather, step count, music control, and recently used apps during daily use. In scenarios like calling taxis, food delivery, flights/trains, widgets will automatically switch to focus notification display, updating status information in real-time.

This outer display integrates deeply with the “Human x Car x Home” ecosystem. AI, Xiaomi EV, and Mi Home apps are deeply adapted to the outer display scenario, allowing users to manage personal daily affairs and control the status of their Xiaomi EV’s and smart home devices. The Xiaomi HyperMind intelligent learning center is also adapted to the outer display, learning and recording users’ smart home device usage habits and proactively executing them. AI Input Assistant, integrated into the outer display input method, can help users refine or generate text as needed, making text creation easier.

Many compact foldable products only support hands-free calls when closed, which users often criticize. Xiaomi MIX Flip addresses the three core issues with a holistic approach, ensuring excellent call quality whether open or closed:

• Signal strength: Xiaomi MIX Flip’s antenna hardware architecture, combined with the intelligent tuning capabilities of the Xiaomi Surge T1 signal enhancement chip and grip recognition algorithm, smartly selects the optimal antenna, avoiding weak signals.
• Audio output: Xiaomi MIX Flip uses a dual dipole system, with one sound unit equipped with a diaphragm for both the inner and outer displays, supporting earpiece calls when open or closed. Leveraging the physical characteristics of the dipole speaker system’s “opposite phase cancellation,” it supports privacy calls, preventing call voice from spreading externally and ensuring privacy in any state.
• An independent noise-canceling microphone near the hinge and the top-frame ensure call quality when closed.

True flagship performance when unfolded

Xiaomi MIX Flip is powered by the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, making it one of the few compact foldable devices using an up-to-date flagship chipset. To ensure comprehensive performance, Xiaomi has redesigned a 3D cooling system for Xiaomi MIX Flip: a large 3500mm¹ VC area with a unique “staircase” design that quickly dissipates heat from the SoC; heat is evenly conducted through double-layer graphite over the hinge, avoiding accumulation of heat. Xiaomi’s SU7 “aerogel” thermal insulation material is used near the inner display side of the “staircase” structure, effectively blocking heat transfer to the display and improving the user experience when touching the display.

Xiaomi MIX Flip features Xiaomi’s Surge battery with 6% silicon content in the negative electrode. It achieves an energy density of 780Wh/L and an ultra-high capacity of 4780mAh, surpassing the flagship Xiaomi 14. The Xiaomi Surge battery management system precisely manages the charging and discharging process, extending battery life. Combined with the battery’s self-healing properties, it can maintain at least 80% capacity after 1600 cycles¹. This gives Xiaomi MIX Flip a battery life performance comparable to non-foldable models, alleviating battery anxiety for compact foldable users.

Xiaomi MIX Flip shares the same low-frequency antenna design as Xiaomi 14 Ultra and is equipped with the Xiaomi Surge T1 signal enhancement chip. The excellent antenna architecture and Xiaomi HyperOS’ deep tuning and network self-learning capabilities ensure smooth communication in any holding position and scenario. It supports cutting-edge connectivity with Wi-Fi 7 and 5G-A, pushing connectivity speed further. Additionally, it fully supports global frequency bands and includes a “Travel Assistant” feature, providing timely reminders of crucial information during flights and train journeys for business travelers. Xiaomi MIX Flip also offers simultaneous display capabilities for AI offline translation on both the inner and outer displays, facilitating communication during foreign conversations by showing real-time bilingual translations on both sides.

Xiaomi MIX Flip features Xiaomi’s composite fiber material, providing sturdiness and protection. The middle frame uses the same 6M42 aluminum alloy as the MIX Fold 4, doubling the strength; Xiaomi Shield Glass and UTG ultra-thin flexible glass protect the outer and inner displays. The compact dual-link hinge’s internal mechanism uses the same high-strength and wear-resistant materials as the MIX Fold 4, with a folding and unfolding lifespan of 500,000 times¹, certified by SGS reliable folding certification. It also offers a Xiaomi Nylon Fiber special edition of meticulously woven nylon fiber with excellent abrasion and stain resistance.

Leica imaging in your pocket

Xiaomi MIX Flip is equipped with Xiaomi x Leica next-generation Summilux lenses. The main camera uses the Light Fusion 800 high dynamic range sensor. It also features the unique 47mm Leica floating telephoto lens in a compact foldable device with a minimum focusing distance of 9cm. Xiaomi MIX Flip also incorporates the Xiaomi AISP large model computational photography platform, supporting advanced imaging scenarios with up to 60 TOPS of processing power. The new “Master Portrait” mode, based on the PortraitLM large model and guided by real-life photographers, enhances portrait beauty beyond reality while maintaining authenticity.

The compact body, large outer display, and foldable form bring unprecedented freedom to the imaging capabilities of Xiaomi MIX Flip. When closed, the large outer display can be used with the two Leica optical lenses for photography and video recording, and it even supports a makeup mirror mode, allowing users to check their makeup using the floating telephoto lens. When in hover mode, it eliminates the need for a tripod, making it suitable for group photos, video recording, and time-lapse photography. It also supports outer display preview while taking pictures, enabling others to monitor and adjust their status in real time when helping capture the shot. Xiaomi has also specially designed the “Xiaomi Photography Kit,” which, when connected, allows for instant shooting and printing, capturing memorable moments.
