Yes 5G, a renowned telecommunications company, has recently disclosed that it will soon include all four models from the much-anticipated iPhone 15 series in its data plan packages. This is a novel move for the telecom giant, as it marks the first-ever inclusion of Apple’s smartphones in its offerings. As per the initial details, the standard iPhone 15 model will be available starting at RM21/month, and the more premium iPhone 15 Pro will start at RM51/month.
Though specifics are yet to be released, it is expected that the iPhones will be bundled with one of Yes 5G’s Infinite postpaid subscriptions. Customers willing to avail these offers will need to agree to a long-term contract. However, Yes 5G, despite being the first Malaysian telco to announce pricing for half of the iPhone 15 series, has not confirmed whether it will be accepting pre-orders for these devices. For that, customers currently only have options such as CelcomDigi, U Mobile, and Maxis, which have confirmed they will begin taking orders for the new iPhone series at midnight on September 22, 2023.
Registering Interest for the iPhone 15 Series
For those who wish to stay informed about any new announcements related to the iPhone 15 series’ availability through Yes 5G, the company has provided an option to register their interest on their website. Apple has previously confirmed that the new phone series will be available in Malaysia from September 29, 2023, onwards.
A Deep Dive into the iPhone 15 Lineup Features
The iPhone 15 series bring exciting features and updates from their predecessors. Every phone in the lineup comes equipped with a USB C port and replaces the notch with Apple’s Dynamic Island feature. The more premium phones, namely the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, are equipped with the new A17 Pro chip, an Action Button, and offer 10Gbps transfer speeds.
There’s a significant variation in price among the various models. The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 has dropped to $699, while the iPhone 15 starts at $799. The iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 15 Plus are priced at $799 and $899, respectively, both sporting a larger 6.7-inch display. The 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999, while the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199. The Pro models offer a 1TB storage option, which the entry-level iPhone 14 and 15 models lack.
Display, Design, and Battery Life
Apple swapped out the notch found on the lower-end iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus for the Dynamic Island. This feature acts as a movable pill-shaped cutout displaying real-time notifications, alerts, and activities. Every phone in the iPhone 15 lineup features a brighter screen than the iPhone 14, with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, promising easier outdoor viewability.
Only the iPhone 15 and Pro Max feature a titanium body, making these smartphones both stronger and lighter. They also feature the Action Button, replacing the traditional ringer button and customizable to create shortcuts, launch the camera, and carry out a range of other tasks.
When it comes to battery life, both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 max out at 20 hours, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max lasts the longest at up to 29 hours. Both Plus models offer up to 26 hours of video playback.
Camera Upgrades and Processing Power
The entry-level iPhone 15 models now come with a 48MP main camera with a quad pixel sensor and 100 Focus Pixels for fast autofocus. The iPhone 14 offered a lower resolution 12-megapixel main shooter. The new iPhone 15 lineup also brings significant improvements to both night mode and portrait mode, the latter of which will now automatically go into effect when taking photos of people or animals.
When it comes to performance, the A16 Bionic chip, first introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, has made its way to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This new chip features a powerful six-core CPU that is faster than the previous generation while also being more energy efficient.
USB C, Dynamic Island, and Improved Connections
The latest iPhone 15 model now comes with a USB C connector, enhancing the speed of wired connections. Users can also use the USB C connector to charge their AirPods or Apple Watch directly from their iPhone. Both models also support MagSafe and future Qi2 chargers for wireless charging.
The entry-level versions of the iPhone now also come with Dynamic Island. The iPhone 15 models also introduce a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, improving the precision of the phone’s Find My feature and allowing two or more phones with the same chip to connect at three times the range as before.
5G and LTE Support
The latest iPhone models come equipped with lightning-fast 5G technology, which Apple claims will significantly improve call quality. The phones also feature Voice Isolation, which filters out background noise to enhance audio clarity. Unlike traditional SIM cards, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus utilize an eSIM like previous models, offering increased convenience and security.
