JOHOR BAHRU, 27 October 2025 – Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) and the Johor Branch of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) are joining forces to cultivate and increase high-caliber and interdisciplinary talent equipped with digital and intelligent skills with the establishment of a Huawei ICT Academy at UiTM Johor.
The Huawei ICT Academy will leverage Huawei’s global expertise and industry-leading certification programmes in areas like 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cloud Computing, serving as a platform to strengthen UiTM’s digital talent ecosystem in key technological domains.
The partnership was formalised with a Letter of Intent (LoI) that was signed at Huawei’s Intelligent World 2035 event in Segamat, Johor. The event featured seminars and workshops for students on the latest trends and career paths in AI, cloud and 5G. It also highlighted how intelligent platforms are set to transform key sectors including healthcare, food, living, mobility, urban spaces, business, energy and digital trust.
Officiating the Intelligent World 2035 event, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa emphasised that Malaysia’s success in moving towards an intelligent future will depend on how well Government, industry and academia work together to ensure innovation serves all layers of society.
“Technology is only part of the story. For this vision to be inclusive, sustainable, and meaningful, we must invest in people by building digital literacy, ensuring access across socioeconomic groups, and safeguarding privacy and trust. By fostering innovation and supporting homegrown talent, we can reduce reliance on external technologies and ensure data sovereignty, a critical foundation for our nation’s technological independence,” she added, underscoring the importance of equitable access to technology and developing homegrown talent in tandem with advancing innovation.
Huawei’s Intelligent World 2035 envisions a society where the combined power of advanced connectivity, artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing will make intelligent solutions as fundamental and easy to access as any basic necessity.
The Intelligent World 2035 projects that by 2035, breakthroughs in AI, next-generation networks such as 5.5G and 6G, as well as intelligent platforms will bring significant transformation globally.
The lecture series aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications by bringing the conversation to the young and emerging talents of the nation.
“This partnership shows that UiTM is dedicated to helping the country develop skilled people who understand advanced technology, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI). We are on the path to an “Intelligent World 2035,” and AI is a key component of this transformation. Universities must remain relevant and proactive in creating a learning environment that exposes students and communities to emerging technologies.
We are confident that by combining expertise and resources from leading global industry players such as Huawei with the community network of the Sekijang Parliamentary People’s Service Centre, this program will provide significant added value not only to campus residents but also to the Johor community,” said Associate Professor Dr Saunah Zainon, Exercising the Functions of The Rector, UiTM Johor.
Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Malaysia, Simon Sun, said the company remains committed to cultivating local digital talent in Malaysia, noting that thousands of students across 52 public and private institutions of higher learning have already been trained in cutting-edge technologies through the Huawei ICT Academy.
“The Huawei ICT Academy was created as a bridge between academia and industry. The aim is to build a strong local ecosystem for advanced Information and Communications Technology (ICT) learning and certification for both teachers and students. It also helps to align the current needs of the industry with that produced by academia. Its core mission is to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and global exposure needed to thrive in the digital economy, boosting their career prospects,” said Simon Sun.
The Huawei ICT Academy provides professional training and globally recognised certification in AI, Cloud Computing, Data Communication and 5G. Students from partner universities have excelled in the Huawei ICT Competition, a global platform where Malaysian participants consistently demonstrate world-class innovation and technical expertise.
To date, Huawei Malaysia has trained over 54,000 individuals in digital skills, surpassing its initial target of 50,000 by 2025 and underscoring the company’s strong commitment to nurturing Malaysia’s digital workforce.
